MBT Spring Bike Ride and Picnic

  • Flint Hills Trail Ottawa KS (map)

Join us for a fun day on the trail, complete with cycling at your pace doing the distance of your choice and stopping for lunch at Pomona state park by the lake! All ages are welcome and encourage to join in the fun.  There is a distance for everyone and we encourage you to invite your friends and family as an outreach opportunity!

Living Well class is sponsoring the Los Tules food truck for lunch, but feel free to bring other food and a little cash for extra food if you prefer. Bring your own blankets and lawn chairs and we will be set for a great time. Can’t wait to see you all there!

There are a few options for the bike ride:

40 mile Segment: Group start time 9:00am. Starts at Legacy Square in Ottawa, KS, which is about a one hour drive from the church down I-35 South. There is plenty of parking space in the square complete with a coffee shop to fuel up for your fun day! Look for a MBT guide. We plan to have bike support at the start in case you need to air up a tire or need help adjusting a seat. After a quick couple of blocks in Ottawa you will ride west on the Flint Hills Trail from the Ottawa trail head 20 miles to Lake Pomona. The lake is your turn around for a total ride of 40 miles.

22 mile segment: Group start time 10:00am. Starts at the Pomona City trail head off of Colorado St. Food and Restrooms are 1 mile away from the trail into the city of Pomona if you need them. We will have a pit stop crew at the trail head if you have questions or need help with your bike! Ride west from the Pomona City trail head on the Flint Hills Trail 11 miles out to the Pomona Lake and State park. This lake is your turn around for a total ride of 22 miles.

13 mile segment: Group start time 10:00am. Starts at the picnic site at Pomona Lake. Drive about 1hr and 15 min to Pomona lake in Kansas down I-35 to highway 268. Touch base with our picnic crew if you need assistance with your bike or need direction to the restrooms! A short hop south out of the state park will lead you right to the Flint Hills trail head. Start cycling east from there and go as far as you like. A 6.6 mile ride with a turnaround at Stubs road will give you a total of about a 13 mile ride back to the Lake Pomona trail head for lunch and allows you to finish your ride with the rest of MBT.

0 mile segment: Food start time 11:30am. Drive about 1hr and 15 min to Pomona lake in Kansas down I-35 to highway 268 and join us for a picnic. Lunch starts at 11:30 and free play at 10:00, so come as early as that! There is sand, frisbee golf, picnic tables and hiking trails available. Feel free to bring picnic games if you like or throw in a lawn chair and your kid’s scooters.
