WHAT IS THE GR5K?
Midtown Baptist Temple has organized the Gralon Rhys 5K “Race for Hope” for over 10 years. It was established in memory of Gralon Rhys Kimble who passed away suddenly in 2008 at the age of 2. It is a 5-kilometer distanced, chip timed event for runners of all levels. It also includes a kids fun run and 1 mile course for anyone wanting a shorter distance. This event is family and dog friendly.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY RAISED BY THIS EVENT GO?
The GR5K partners with Hope Family Orphanage in Nepal, Iglesias Del Norte in Costa Rica, the Hatikva Project in Israel, and the Passion Center for Children in Malawi. Each of these organizations minister physically and spiritually to children with great need. 100% of the proceeds from this event go to support them.

First weekend in November. In 2025, it will be Nov. 1st @ 10:00am
WHERE IS THE GR5K HELD?
It is held at Shawnee Mission Park, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee, KS Shelter 1, SPC Loop
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Anyone can participate! All ages & skill levels are welcome. We have something for everyone. Come and participate, volunteer or cheer on those that do!
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE REGISTRATION COST?
The cost includes race entry, race bib (for those that want a timed run) and race t-shirt. (same day registration is available, but shirt is not guaranteed)
ARE THERE FINISHER MEDALS?
The top 3 finishers in each category will receive a medal. The overall female and male finisher will also receive an additional prize.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO DONATE WITHOUT PARTICIPATING?
Absolutely! There is a link on the website where you can donate any amount. You can also mail a check to Midtown Baptist Temple and designate the GR5K.
HOW CAN WE SPONSOR THE RACE?
If your company would like to make a tax-deductible contribution, we offer 3 sponsorship categories.
Bronze: $200-499 | Receives a GR5K hoodie.
Silver: $500-999 | Receives your logo on the race shirt and a GR5K hoodie.
Gold: $1,000 & up | Receives your logo on the race shirt, logo on race day banner and a GR5K hoodie.
WHAT IS LEAVES FOR LOVED ONES?
Leaves for Loved Ones is an opportunity to have a loved one’s name memorialized in a leaf on the back of the race shirt. The cost is $100 and includes a race shirt.
HOW CAN I HELP/VOLUNTEER?
The success of this race depends on volunteers like you! There are lots of volunteer opportunities leading up to and the day of the race. Please prayerfully consider volunteering.
IS THERE MERCHANDISE OTHER THAN THE RACE SHIRT THAT WILL BE AVAILABLE?
Yes, each year we offer additional GR5K branded apparel options for a suggested donation. Check out the website for all available 2025 merch.
