The Apostles return from their 2x2 trip and tell Jesus about all they have done. Jesus instructs them to get away from the crowd and rest, but the crowd arrives at the retreat site before they do. Jesus teaches the crowd and is moved with compassion to feed them. He uses this as an object lessons in dependence on the Lord.

Jesus meets Matthew at the tax collector's booth and invites him to follow. Jesus then eats at Matthew's house along with his disciples, publicans, and sinners. We are called to live at peace with and love our enemies while reaching the lost with the Gospel..
