In this sermon, in the aftermath of the battle with the Philistines, we see the birth of the brotherly covenant between David and Jonathan. However, while the children of Israel celebrate David’s victory, a prideful jealousy is stirred within Saul. Overcome by an evil spirit, he attempts to slay David, beginning a long season of persecution for the future king.
