There is a stark contrast between Jesus’ ministry to the Samaritans and the neighboring Galileans. Through the study of John 4, we see that no matter the ministry method, God ultimately desires for all to come to belief in His son Jesus.

Jesus’ first miracle recorded in scripture was turning water into wine at a wedding. Though this may, at face value, appear to merely be addressing a social need, closer study reveals a signal of the new covenant that will come through the shed blood of Jesus.

The suffering Servant, our Lord Jesus Christ, was not contained in death or burial, but resurrected. The manifold eye witness accounts, along with His commission to preach the gospel to every creature, was the history-making catalyst to bring hope to a death-sentenced world.

As the suffering servant continued to stand before the Roman government and the angry mob, He continued steadfast to the cross to die for our sins and remove the barrier between God and man.

As Israel observed the Passover feast, Jesus was betrayed, abandoned, arrested and declared guilty of blasphemy. Despite all the adversity, Jesus remains strong in the Spirit and continues to walk toward the cross.

Jesus warns His disciples of future tribulations and equips them to overcome through discernment and remaining watchful.

Once again, Jesus silences the religious rulers who are relentless on trying to catch Him in his words. Through the dialogue, we learn a great deal about God’s desire to see fruit for His Son’s inheritance.

As Jesus enters Jerusalem and cleanses the temple, he demonstrates His righteous authority in word and deed.

As Jesus and the disciples make their way to Jerusalem, the Lord continues to engage various people and show us that the ways of the Lord are different from the ways of man.

As Jesus continues His ministry around Galilee, He reveals to His disciples His future glory and the coming judgments.

The Father reveals the identity of Jesus to the disciples – the anointed Messiah. It is during this pivotal time of ministry and teaching that they learn about Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection, along with their own cross to bear if they were to continue as His disciples.

Jesus openly rebukes Israel’s religious rulers for their hypocrisy and prioritization of man’s traditions over God’s law. As his ministry temporarily shifts to the Gentiles, we see both a revelation of God’s heart for all nations and the foreshadowing of the church being composed of believing Jews and Gentiles.

As Jesus’ ministry continues to spread throughout Israel, we see God’s mighty work both hindered by opposition and unbelief, and also multiplied through the sending of the Apostles. Ultimately, His ministry endures amidst difficulties on multiple fronts.

There are many obstacles to life, including danger, demons, disease and ultimately, death. Jesus demonstrates His authority over each of these four areas to give empirical evidence to eyewitnesses of His divine nature.

In response to Israel’s rejection, Jesus begins teaching in parables, to both conceal and reveal the truths of the kingdom of God.

As Israel’s religious leaders continue to reject Jesus’ ministry, we begin to see the mystery of the church unfold.

Jesus continues His preaching and healing ministry, but is under intense scrutiny from the hard-hearted religious leaders.
